ABOUT ABOUT

From master director Ulrich Seidl, Paradise: Love takes a hard look at sex tourism trade in Africa, through the journey of a middle-aged Austrian woman searching for sex and love, only one of which is easily found.

Running Time: 120 min.     Director: Ulrich Seidl

Paradise: Love centers around Teresa, a woman in search of love and affection, neither of which is returned by anyone in her life, including her daughter. Desperately needing to get away, Teresa joins her friend on a trip to Africa, and while there Teresa’s friend introduces her to the sex tourism trade. Along the Kenyan beaches the locals line up every morning to offer their goods, both material and carnal, and vacationing women, known as "sugar mamas," seek out African boys selling themselves to earn a living. Teresa, however, is looking for more than just sex: she wants love. But that is seemingly the one thing which cannot be purchased. Paradise: Love is the first installment of a planned trilogy, with the second film, Paradise: Faith, also playing at this year’s Festival, and the final part, Paradise: Hope, expected to be released in 2013. This first film explores the worlds of sex and exploitation, all in the search for love.
