ABOUT ABOUT

The second film in Austrian director Ulrich Seidl's trilogy about three related women at crossroads in their lives, Paradise: Faith examines a fanatically devout Catholic reunited with her Muslim husband, and the consequences of her actions.

Running Time: 113 min.     Director: Ulrich Seidl     Cast: Maria Hofstatter, Nabil Saleh

Following Paradise: Love, which is also included in this year’s Festival, Paradise: Faith focuses on Anna Maria, an X-ray technician, and devout catholic who belongs to an Opus Dei-like sect of the church. Anna Maria regularly spends her free time and vacation doing missionary work. But conflict arises when, after two years of absence, her husband, an Egyptian Muslim, returns home confined to a wheelchair. Forced to live together again, Anna Maria must now weigh her religious devotion against her love and her marriage. Paradise: Faith is an incredibly ambitious film featuring both religious and sexual imagery that will challenge and reward viewers with some very memorable moments and thought-provoking ideas.
