ABOUT ABOUT

Compelling, touching, and insightful, Birth Story documents the life and work of Ina May Gaskin, the mother of modern midwifery.

Running Time: 95 min.     Director: Sara Lamm & Mary Wigmore

A huge hit at the Los Angeles Film Festival, directors Sara Lamm and Mary Wigmore’s first collaborative effort is an intimate look at the experiences of Ina May Gaskin since she and her friends began The Farm, an agricultural, communal society in rural Tennessee, where they trained in midwifery. Gaskin revolutionized natural childbirth in a time when babies were delivered with forceps and men weren't allowed in the delivery room. To this day, she continues the attempt to steer our culture away from c-sections and hospital interventions, affirming that the female body is fully capable of delivering a baby naturally with the right support. Filled with amazing stories from Gaskin and the midwives as they reflect on their experiences at the The Farm Clinic, Lamm and Wigmore’s unapologetically honest documentary presents the miracle of life in its rawest, most natural form.
