ABOUT ABOUT

The men of this fascinating documentary may seem like you average New England suburbanites, but burning inside them is an obsession to terrify friends, family, and neighbors with elaborate haunted houses built right in their own backyards every Halloween.

Running Time: 90 minutes     Director: Michael Stephenson     Cast: Various

In the suburban town of Fairhaven, Massachusettes lurks a strange and spooky secret. This documentary follows three “haunters,” who spend the bulk of the year collecting, modifying, and building amateur haunted houses for Halloween, sometimes at great financial and personal cost. In discussing their consuming passion for the hobby, these men end up revealing far more about their lives and motivations, from an oppressively religious upbringing, to the need for a family bonding activity, to a painful struggle with wider social acceptance. However, director Michael Stephenson (Best Worst Movie) keeps the tone light and fun, reminding us what it’s like to be a child with that Halloween excitement. Come get in the spirit this October with this hilarious new documentary.
