Beginning in 2013, the historic Roxy Theater will become the new home of the Philadelphia Film Society (PFS).
PFS will operate the Roxy as a first-run theater, with an emphasis on independent films, many of which presently cannot be seen theatrically in Philadelphia. Not only will the theater program an array of highly anticipated new films along with repertory cinema not widely available in the city, but it will also offer educational programs focused on film and filmmakers, designed for students of any age.
While PFS intends to operate the Roxy on an as-is basis until we can raise the funds necessary to make renovations and improvements, the need for immediate updating of equipment and furnishings is significant. This renovation will consist of adding new seating, new flooring, new digital projection, new screens, and a new sound system, among other improvements.
Your contribution and patronship is critical in helping us to complete these improvements and realize our vision for the Roxy as premiere movie theater in Center City as well as the hub for the Philadelphia Film Community.
