ABOUT ABOUT

This coming-of-age tale from Philly based filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu follows a Nigerian-born Alaskan on a powerful journey of self-discovery.

Running Time: 75 min.          Director: Chinonye Chukwu          Cast: Alex Ubokudom, Chioma Dunkley and Leland Bernard Martin

Alaska’s frigid climate is not the only reason why Chukwuma has been given the cold shoulder. Because of his ethnic background, “Chuck” has been dismissed as “fake" by his friends in Fairbanks, and struggles to balance his cultural heritage with the pressures of the larger world around him. After a family tragedy forces a two-year estrangement from his younger sister Chidinma, the siblings finally reconnect in their hometown. Although their time apart has created new frictions, they find their reconciliation bringing them closer to each other and to their roots in this gorgeous, knowing debut film. With an authentic
tone and a visually striking Subarctic backdrop, Alaskaland is rich in raw and intimate moments among its diverse characters, whose universal dreams and insights transcend all cultural barriers.
