ABOUT ABOUT

A huge award winner in Cannes, the sophomore feature from Mexican director Michel Franco (Daniel and Ana) is a profound and disturbing examination of loss and bullying.

Running Time: 93 min.          Director: Michel Franco          Cast: Tessa Ia, Gonzalo Vega Jr. and Tamara Yazbek

Shortly after the death of his wife, Roberto, a disgruntled chef, decides to take his teenage daughter, Alejandra and move to Mexico City for a change of scenery. Distraught and grief stricken, Roberto finds it hard to concentrate on work and even harder to raise a child. And Alejandra has problems of her own. When a sex tape of her and her classmate goes public, she becomes the subject of vicious taunting and bullying in school. As the situation escalates, the world for Roberto and Alejandra quickly begins to collapse around them. Earning himself many comparisons to directors like Larry Clark, Franco directed a savagely dark portrait of human nature. The film blows past any social niceties and presents a wholly original, pitch black drama that won the Grand Jury Prize for the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes this year.
