ABOUT ABOUT

A charming, locally sourced drama, this film shares life (and ecological) lessons that transcend age differences among three generations of women who seek greater purpose.

Running Time: 100 min.     Director: Jenny Deller     Cast: Perla Haney-Jardine and Amy Madigan

Grown from Philadelphian soil, this locally cultivated selection feels as genuine and organic as its protagonist, Lauderee, a passionate, yet troubled young environmentalist who has recently been abandoned by her mother. Lauderee wants to better the planet, but she doesn’t know how. Alone in the world, she finds herself hurdled into a life of self-sufficiency. But after getting caught shoplifting, Lauderee is apprehended by authorities who subsequently contact her estranged grandmother, Greta. Once Greta discovers that Lauderee has been living in unsuitable conditions, she is forced to assume custody of her granddaughter. Though, despite being a nurse, caring seems to be noticeably absent from her cynical demeanor, and Greta’s negativity spreads to Lauderee. As the two women struggle to piece together the disappearance of Lauderee’s mother, their relationship gradually blossoms. The destinies of these characters may be undetermined, but this delightfully offbeat drama is certainly headed for festival greatness.
